We’re committed to creating sustainable cleaning products with safer ingredients – and we have the qualifications to prove it.

We became carbon neutral in 2013 across our entire operation, largely in part by switching to 100% renewable energy and dramatically reducing our transportation emissions. In the process, we offset over 2800万磅的二氧化碳 emissions each year.

We’ve been water neutral since 2016, after strategically reducing our water consumption, implementing concentrated formulas and restoring over 14 million gallons to critically endangered habitats each year.

What does it mean to be eco-conscious?
The term “eco-conscious” means we consider the impact each product has on the environment. We think about our impact at every step of the development process – from the initial stages of research to the final stages of production in our sustainable manufacturing 设施. 例如, we assess the environmental and human health impact of every raw material and ingredient, selecting only those that meet our stringent safety and sustainability criteria, and we actively track and reduce our carbon intensity through energy-efficient technologies, 可再生能源, 碳补偿项目. Backed by 55+ years of eco-conscious cleaning product experience, we continue to develop innovative formulas with the goal of minimizing impacts on the environment. Being eco-conscious is about more than just certifications – like being the first manufacturer to achieve LEED Zero Carbon, LEED零能耗, and LEED Zero Waste certifications. We were founded with the mission to protect the health and wellness of people, 宠物, 这个星球, and we continue to offer eco-conscious cleaning products to help move closer to that goal every day.
How does biodiversity play a part?
Being eco-conscious also means protecting the biodiversity of life on Earth. Biodiversity is the amazing variety of plants, 动物, 昆虫, and microorganisms that live and work together to support life on our planet. It’s an indicator of our planet’s health and the foundation of our own health—it affects the foods we eat, 我们服用的药物, and our ability to withstand extreme weather and climate change. 但是今天, species are disappearing at an accelerating pace, throwing ecosystems in jeopardy and threatening their ability to withstand stressors like drought, 疾病, 全球变暖.
ECOS ingredients are thoughtfully sourced to help protect biodiversity. Our plant-based ingredients are grown in indigenous areas to help ensure cultivation with less 水和能源 than in non-indigenous regions. Most of our surfactants are derived from plant oils such as coconut oil, a renewable alternative to crude oil surfactants that contribute to climate change. We’re a member of the Roundtable of 可持续发展的 Palm Oil (RSPO), which contributes to the protection of biodiversity through the sustainable production, 采购, and use of palm oil and minimizing the negative impacts of palm oil cultivation on local communities. The RSPO also conserves primary forests and high conservation value areas through careful identification, 管理, 和监控. We also partner with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the 可持续发展的 Forestry Initiative (SFI), organizations that are taking action to protect high-biodiversity old-growth forests, threatened and endangered species, 以及重要的野生动物栖息地.
